This film, My Love, is an ode to me—I often question my purpose on this earth. What is the meaning of everything?
My drive and hope to act as a catalyst for my ancestry even while living in a faraway region.

A piece of footage of me standing in the middle of the Ickworth Estate, an Italianate palace in Suffolk, United Kingdom—an eventual acquisition by the National Trust. A visual depiction as I reflect on my time studying in a colonial region, understanding the ways of colonialism, and how these link to and affect my life, my childhood, and my ancestry. I ponder on my purpose of being here and how I can be a contribution to shedding light on my past bloodline, the sufferings, and the beliefs the West had deeply embedded towards the Peranakan Chinese during the British colonial period and how this snowball effect of colonial ethnic stratification affected subsequent generations throughout Southeast Asia, causing an ethnic divide amongst the Malays, Chinese, Indians and other minority ethnic groups where racial riots, strategised privilege form.
Reflection
I took some footage while I was back in my hometown, Singapore, showcasing its architecture, solemnity, diverse cultures, and hidden beauty through my eyes. My boyfriend took me to Ickworth, a National Trust estate located in the heart of Suffolk, where he helped me film various pieces of fixed footage of me at Ickworth, standing at the centre point of the footage, along with no narration, just the audio of nature surrounding it for an authentic and raw feel. I stepped out of my comfort zone among the various tourists there and did some performative modelling for the video, which I am personally very proud of. My boyfriend gave me a lot of support, encouraged me constantly and helped me with the film direction, which helped me a lot in this process.
