nostalgia series part I: 歌舞厅
observing visual concepts & creatives have shed a new light towards my thinking— an appreciation towards chinese culture. i realised that there is beauty and meaning in everything if you look deep enough. & because of this, i have learnt to be proud of my own culture and race. for this series, i was inspired by the post-modern simplicity of chinese tradition & fashion to bring out the beauty in chinese culture.
nostalgia series part II: the loved
a girl. accepted by society, well taken care of & loved by everyone. however, she was empty. as empty as a cocoon without its pupa, she wanders around her favourite childhood place yearning for the fulfilment she once felt as a child.
nostalgia series part III: the shattered
part of us understands her. the pain & brokenness we so feel. our inner reflection of sadness when we stare at our empty selves late at night. she is what we want out of lives but yet
we so need her.
she defines our strength, pushes us to do better. she is what we need in order to grow. the black flower of the pack. she is broken, but she will emerge glorious.
nostalgia series part IV: the intertwining of paths
just like these two, sometimes we experience the intertwining of love & understanding, with trauma & brokenness. the hurt inside of us finally accepts our broken past, embracing it with everlasting love & forgiveness. just like how every hurt and brokenness is overcome by our habit to understand, learn & forgive, & how sometimes we find bits of brokenness in our love. the paths of love & brokenness intertwine.
